the stupid part about people complaining about self diagnosis is that real psychiatric diagnoses are a joke
go to a psychiatrist, say you feel depressed, and they'll diagnose you with clinical depression. say you have anxiety and they'll diagnose you with anxiety. say you have X, they'll ask "do you have the symptoms of X?", say yes, and they diagnose you.
people talk a lot about therapists to "make sure you're serious" about transitioning, but all that process really is, is being asked "are you sure" 500 times and saying yes each time

It's just a gatekeeping strategy. They don't want trans people to transition so they ignore the basic bodily autonomy argument and push for paternalism instead. Trans people couldn't possibly know what's going on in their own heads and require cis approval to get meds. Fuck that. Informed consent and DIY are the only ways.

From my personal experience there exist realy psychological differences and quite persistent characteristics in people (myself included). Whether or not they are always properly recognized and if the categories themselves are all there and correct is not yet the case.

Your subjective judgement hinders the accuracy of the diagnosis, that's why educated and licensed people do it for you. The average person will lie to a yes/no question if they're offended by the phrasing, and skip checkboxes that they just feel aren't relevant to the criteria.

That's why they need to hammer it in, to make it official and accurate.
