I’m an American trans woman, and I never realized how good American trans women had it until I visited Europe, and started interacting with the European trans community.

Never in my life had a met so many trans people who had been openly trans for like 2 or 3 years but literally were not on HRT. It was incredibly depressing to see.

In the U.S. the more prescription drugs doctors give you, the more money they make. Because of that system, doctors were literally BEGGING you to prescribe you HRT, regardless of your age or medical diagnosis. Not only that, but most clinics would literally give you as much as you asked for. While my British trans friends were like 7 fucking years away from getting a single crumb of HRT, my American trans friends who had known they were trans for like 2 weeks were literally getting seizures from the amount of HRT they were bring prescribed.

Not only that, but the United States was (and technically still is, but we’ll see how long it lasts) one of the only countries where you can get extensive gender affirming surgeries for free. I’m on my mom’s healthcare plan, and I’m literally allowed to get $100,000 worth of surgeries for free, as it’s all covered by insurance.

Also, Joe Biden was the greatest freedom fighter for trans people that we could possibly ask for. He literally called trans people “the civil rights fight of our time” and did an interview with Dylan Mulvaney where he talked about the importance of trans rights and access to trans healthcare.

BUT ALL OF THAT IS PROBABLY GOING IN THE GARBAGE NOW BECAUSE OF TRUMP. WE LITERALLY HAD IT ALL. THE UNITED STATES WAS BASICALLY A TRANS UTOPIA, AND NOW ITS ALL FALLING APART :(((

the difference isnt doctors getting money for prescribing specific meds or a certain amount (they dont), its cause we have privatized healthcare versus euros having public healthcare.
in europe you need to convince half of the country to support trans healthcare, otherwise you end up with the UK where the NHS waitlist is 9 years. in the US, the only thing you need to do is convince a doctor there's money in treating trans patients.
this is also why universal healthcare is a very bad idea in the US. idk how people can watch the current federal government rape medicare and medicaid and think "you know what we really need? more federal control over our healthcare, in fact, make our only option the federal healthcare option."

I have the opposite experience as an eastern European. DIY is incredibly easy to get (as long as you're in the EU) Because mail can travel freely without any customs checks from any seller in any other EU country so you have lots of options and zero risk of seizure.

And even if you want to go the official route, because trans healthcare has a lot of grey areas and there's more public funding for healthcare there are lots of independent trans-friendly doctors that will prescribe you whatever hrt and blood tests you want for free

Progress and acceptance was moving forward steadily, but then someone had to get too preachy, demonize white boys every chance they got, and start forcing visibility in more and more things.
