My mother was a deeply closeted homosexual. A lesbian. Like how Ross's wife in friends was a lesbian when she married. Another decade after my birth, she admitted to the fact that she was a lesbian. She got a little worse, and then a lot happier. She finally got a degree, and started going to a psychiatrist. Then she divorced my father; started going to more and more doctors; started medicating herself with pills that you're not supposed to mix, pure grain alchohol, and THC. She then went clinically insane, developing a very uncommon, less known mental disorder known as delusional parasitosis. That is a mental disorder in which you beleive some sort of bug or parasite is making you ill, that it is crawling beneath your skin and chewing at your flesh, and that no doctor will aknowledge the bugs inside of you. She thought that a carcinogenic mold was poisoning her and that a flea was in her brain. I have not spoken to her in a long time; I do not know how she is still alive.

So to answer your question, a gay can absolutely marry a straight and live a lie for years, but they really shouldn't, the mental strain is almost unbearable.
