In buddhism there are beings who are called bodhisattvas, who are basically semi-buddhas who have realized illumination and choose to come back to the world to help people be illuminated too, apparently the Tibetan sect believes the Dalai Lama is a bodhisattva reincarnate, more specifically the kannon bodhisattva or also called avalokiteshvara, which is a genderless bodhisattva.

Not how it works, you don't get to choose your reincarnation like that unless you've become a bodhisattva, which is basically just a step away from the Buddha himself, regular people most likely will reincarnate in worse existences like as an animal, or a wrathful demi-god, or a hungry ghost, or as an inhabitant of hell, if you're lucky and cultivate enough good karma you get to be a human again or become a celestial being/god.
