what would you do if you came across a boymoder that was asking for more money, felt that she deserved more for the work she did, thought that her job should pay more, and was just generally asking you for a raise?

inform him that we don't have the money in the budget, that it's not company policy to give out raises this soon, that it's really my bosses decision and i'm just middle-management, and that i just generally can't approve his raise.

I believe in paying a living wage so if I had any influence at all (I don't) then this wouldn't be a problem.

Say I understand but I'm on thin ice with the higher ups already. If we could have like a consistent 2 weeks of outstanding work and positive customer reviews I could definitely give her a raise.
I would do things to intentionally mess up a day or two for her so she would have to restart. Even if she actually pulled it off I wouldn't give her the raise, but we would have several weeks of better labor.
