- The writer wants the Queer character to take up a lot of space so the Queer people and their Queer-validating friends clap to their brave otherness.
- Modern people (see: women, who crave ingrouping) are associating with Queerness because you're allowed to be proud of belonging to it and anyone that doesn't enjoy this perpetual celebration is a bigot and attackable.
- You can definitely disguise a badly written character with the "you don't like how Queer they are" defense.
In short,
Pride is about being a noisy fucktard and being invincible against critique, so you may as well shield your characters with it and get people talking about your game via ragebaiting.
