>>40385622 (OP)>>40386286Yeah, even as recently as the 80s-90s I would argue things were worse, for both gay and trans people. It's a little bit different in the internet age, because it's so much easier to consume a massive volume of people's hateful opinions and it's kinda hard to avoid them. But nowadays, homophobia and transphobia has this wannabe "rebellious" tone to it, like they feel like they're speaking some forbidden truth they're not supposed to say. In the past, homophobia and transphobia were just taken as absolute truth, they WERE the social norm, it was more just brazen and unchecked and came from a place of confidence that nobody was gonna stop them from talking however they wanted
I doubt things will ever be perfect, and these things come and go in waves, but the overall course of progress seems to be two steps forward, one step back. Right now, we're down in a "one step back" trough on the graph. But even in the low point of the current moment things are still better than they were a couple decades ago
For now, at least. I think things in the UK are currently worse than in the US, and the US still has 3+ years on the current administration and they seem determined to see how far they can take this, so check in this time next year and see if I still feel the way I feel about it right now
