>>40406104I understand, but the formula was getting stale and Zelda have always had some sort of open overworld, it was OoT that closed it due to hardware limitations and the change of perspective, this pushed devs to create more intricate dungeons while neglecting the overworld, by WW it was obvious they were trying to give it a purpose, TP tried to come back to the OoT formula sprinkled with huge fields to create a sense of scale, SS started to merge puzzle solving with it but it was held back by the 3D formula.
BotW felt fresh and being able to go anywhere gave us a new perspective of Hyrule, its main problem was that it was mostly mountains and barren plains and traversing it became stale fast, TotK tried to solve this problem by adding the building mechanics which by themselves add a lot of depth but Nintendo's obsession with limiting the player was their main drawback.
If you really don't like open world I suggest you give up on the franchise, at least temporarily, judging by the recent releases Nintendo has chosen it as their preferred world style, I expect a reworked hyrule but still open world, I hope they learn from their mistakes and use their experience with MKW and the new DK to make it denser and add a fun traversing mechanic.
