Try to talk to someone, anyone, seriously, and you will notice they get things wrong, say weird shit, get hung up on their online/thread pseudo-reputation. It's pointless trying to have a meaningful discussion. 4chan is practically based on emotional responses nowadays. All the bait threads turned everyone into little crybabies. Making a serious post feels incredibly wrong.
Let's look at this thread for example. We could discuss how other anons *feel* like people outside 4chan are any different. But we could argue that people online and people offline are one and the same.

The difference is that, back in the days, people wanted to contribute: how to make our discussions as long as possible?
Nowadays these people are trying to larp as le edgy 4chinzler to be the equivalent of NLOGs: how can I conform my answer to the style of other anons, so that I can claim to be someone from 4chan? 4chan has become basically a more complex Twitch chat.
Yeah, you could turn very easily this thread into a hyperintellectual discussion on the purpose of identity in the public discourse, but why? Again, it feels wrong. Why crashing the thread to talk about a certain something when the thread is clearly a simple rant (you don't entertain me anymore) followed by basically the same, extremely predictable response (touch grass) repeated over and over again: everything else would be derailing the thread.
And going back to the ol' days is impossible, because if your questions don't imply predictable answers, then these people just freeze or namecall you.
