The core is the 4 noble truth which he declared after meditating under a bodhi tree.

1.Life is Suffering.
Now the word is actually Dukha which means missing the mark or unsatisfaction.

This is because things are transient and subject to change by causes and conditions including time.

2. Is the cause of our suffering.

You never fully can complete your longing for passions and it leaves you trapped in a never ending cycle of being incomplete.

Buddhists also believe that when you die you get reincarnated based on your actions either being reborn in a higher realm or lower realm of existence.

Either way it's temporary.

Hell isnt for ever nor is heaven.

3. The truth that there is a way to the end of suffering. That it can be escaped both in this life and the next.

4. The actual way of escaping suffering the eight fold noble path.

Shakyamuni Buddha (or Gautama) is above gods and men. Gods and men don't see reality as it truly is, a Buddha does. Buddhas are on a class of their own, but they aren't different from any sentient being either. We all have the potentiality to become Buddhas, as opposed to no one being able to become God.
Yes, we need a teacher to practice Buddhism properly, it is a living tradition.

I don't live in the west but I just practice with an online sangha(s) and teacher(s). Lineage goes beyond borders when transmitted properly. The Dharma has no country.

I still don't consider myself a buddhist for personal reasons, but I have been going to sangha for about seven years now (plus classes, etc) and I view the world through the framework I learned there. I do have a meditation practice, although most buddhists the world over do not. Meditation can actually be bad for some mental health problems.

I have several teachers. I work under two of mine directly and my sangha has a handful of others. I don't have to meditate under a teacher, although having teachers, especially people with a monastic background, to troubleshoot with and guide me has been incredibly helpful.

A lot of my practice (that isn't meditating) often requires other people though. Right speech, for example.

If you're worried about your practice maybe you could be more careful with your speech? normally I wouldn't bother, because this is 4chan. but in complete sincerity, I say it in case it's helpful. working on right speech was like my entry into the eightfold path and I will still be working on it when I die, so I use that lens a lot.
