Years ago I had an idea for a novel where the main character was a trans girl living through a zombie apocalypse. Coping with the scarcity of meds, dysphoria at having to "man up" and fight, being coveted by a hot warlord who can provide you meds but is a brutal tyrant, etc.

Never explored far enough to make it real. Probably would be best as a choose your own adventure book because I really want to write an ending where the protagonist loses hrt access, becomes strong, and discovers what she needed was a war to fight. But that would NOT connect with most gender dysphoric transpeople obviously.

You can order straight e2 powder from china by the kilo. A 10ml injection vial with castor oil and 400mg e2 total lasts around 1 year.
40g of e2 powder will therefore supply you 100 years worth of e2 injection vials

I'm pretty sure the way its made industrially, they reactions are driven by a few enzymes which themselves are from genetically modified bacteria. The original material is cholesterol which you can get from eggs.

You can order custom genes for E-coli now which is awesome, but someone needs to figure out how to do all the separation steps to purify it and I have no idea how to actually tell what the hell is being made.

I thought about this a bit, I think the bacteria and enzyme part is easy but I have no fucking clue how to do separations and testing.

E-coli come out of the box with a little mechanism for sharing genes with eachother, its ridiculously easy to have a company print genes in proper form to program the little E-coli and have them synthesis stuff now.
