In the coming decades, conventional transition therapies will likely be iterated upon before plateauing at a "good" outcome, just good, no more. Like, functionally you are your desired sex, but your body isn't entirely changed.

By this time, its possible that a more radical, transhumanist approach will be available, transplanting the brain into an android/gynoid body. This approach will likely yield better results, and is almost certainly going to exist before full biological sex changes are possible.

there won't be any android/gynoid bodies or brain transplants. a more effective and disgusting method will become available long before we figure out how to integrate meat and machine - we're just gonna grow new limbs, skin, organs, etc and graft them on. we'll effectively have brain transplants by way of head+selective circulatory system transplants, then hella dremeling on the skull to make it pretty. it'll always be meat on meat, we can't integrate biological and mechanical systems without turning the mechanics into meat by way of immune system integration.

Yeah, I was erroneously thinking that people would try to change their cells to be their desired sex, rather than creating new structures made of cells of their desired sex, and replacing them.

I still think android/gynoids are closer though, BCIs are making progress, and Neuralink aims to be able to control robots with their current patients. Life support was partially solved in the 1950s.

The biggest ever advance in transition technology aside from HRT is FFS. There is a very expensive and difficult to find medical book detailing the story. iirc in the 1980s a trans women came to a plastic surgeon asking if he could help her look more female. He hadn't really thought about his surgeries as making a person look more of one sex or the other, just as more or less beautiful. He went asking around and no doctors could quite describe sexual dimorphism in a way that was quantifiable enough for him to intentionally skew the face more in a female typical direction.

Finally he'd thought back to art books showing the proportions of male and female bodies and faces. He visited some artists he knew and worked with them to basically map out the proportions and then to try to see which procedures he could do to move the client in that direction.

One of the biggest things was starting to shave down the brow ridge. Total game changer.

Anyway, no doctor had thought of their work in that paradigm before until a trans woman asked for it. It was a huge leap, but less in terms of technology and more in terms of the way that technology was framed.

There are probably more leaps like that that could happen even today.
