because real & meaningful political action has never been glamorous or easy and often comes at the cost of your freedom and/or life. its much more comfortable to be pretty and have legions of parasocial fans give you money to look cute and sit on the sidelines while occasionally critiquing the systems you exploit and are exploited by just enough so that you may pretend to believe in something that goes beyond individualistic hedonism/fame/money/etc.

internet leftist video essay "activists" are a necessary pressure release valve constructed to give people a way to feel as if consooming content is actually subversive or akin to taking real political action, and to pay penance for living in a system they know is deeply exploitive and wrong but also inescapable and futile to resist.
