step 1: while pooping in the morning, apply The Ordinary lactic acid to face until you brush teeth/wash face (I wear a shower cap and push it up so it's just over my hairline and my whole face is exposed)
step 2: while in the shower, use an exfoliating cloth and sensitive soap to gently but firmly scrub your face; I use Dove Sensitive bar soap
step 3: don't use a traditional shaving cream, as they can be irritating; I prefer to use Cetaphil gentle skin cleanser. It lubricates the razor well and cleanses the skin as you shave, significantly reducing the likelihood of cuts or pores becoming infected or clogged. Apply it continuously after each stroke
step 4: When shaving against the grain, don't necessarily just go "up to down then down to up." Hairs will be positioned slightly differently and want different angles depending on where on your face you're shaving; this part takes trial and error to find the best angles, probably 3-5 shaves and you'll have it down
step 5: Don't go over the same skin in the same direction twice, and never go over the same skin more than three times
step 6: if you already have severe acne or breakouts, consider trying benzoyl peroxide 4% or 10% facial cleanser, depending on your acne severity; it's an extremely powerful acne treatment that can help reset your skin. CAUTION: benzoyl peroxide bleaches hair and clothing. Keep it the hell away from both
this is my routine and I very rarely get irritation, usually because I skip a step or forget to stay hydrated
