your pitch and resonance need work. lightly male/andro, a bit monotonous?
>>41638229
you're succeeding at androgyny in the voice clip i don't get a clear impression of your agab from it. the singing is more masculine, it's obviously straining the high part of your range. practice will help you go higher in time.
>>41638907
you sound so good! maybe slightly monotonous but i don't think i'd clock out of context.

your not hearing it is pretty normal, i think. that's what these threads are for ;p it's pretty hard to be objective with yourself about this sort of thing. if i were to critique anything it would probably be a very very slight nasality but really you don't have anything to worry about. your voice is similar to one of my cisf coworkers' :)

it's more about technique than anything (ime), but yes. it's like stretching: working at it bit by bit makes it easier over time to do the certain things you need to do to get where you want to be. do not give up nona <3
my advice has always been to sing....it helps you learn so many things about your voice and how it works, plus increases your range and makes it easier to phonate in general (re: stretching). also plus it's fun
Anonymous No.41643547 [Report]
>>41640159
Yeah, the vocal clip isn't supposed to sound particularly feminine, though. Tracy Chapman has a pretty masculine voice for a woman, and I was going for something adjacent. I can already sing in a much higher register and in a more feminine style. I have a very wide vocal range and can go into whistle register, even. Didn't do it for that particular recording, though, because that was not the intention, so very misplaced advice, sorry.

see >>41642918; doing technical exercises like swallow-and-hold or big dog, small dog are useful, but i am convinced all you need is a post-hardcore album to sing along to and a will to try (post-hardcore album not actually necessary it's just what i like lol). desu this probably takes a much longer time than specific, targeted practice, but just by playing around and keeping your vocal cords supple and manipulable with consistent use and healthy technique (you can hurt your voice by singing, too!) you can teach yourself everything you need to know and probably more. i am sort of a weird case but singing has taught me so much about my voice.
also, you definitely do not need to speak at such a high pitch; resonance is much more important overall. picrel represents the lower end of my comfortable register, which passes just fine :) generally i speak someplace between this and like 200ish Hz. so maybe aim for something like that.

Passes but gives teenage boy vibes.
1. Average pitch in that clip was 167.6Hz. Normal male range is 85Hz to 150Hz. Need to drop it lower and keep it there consistently.
2. Resonance is too feminine. Need to focus on speaking from your chest.

>>41647723
Passes but gives stereotypical transfem vibes, like I swear I've heard 10 different trans women with this exact voice.

Feeling like you sound more like a gay man is a common problem when you're first learning resonance - you've learned how to elevate your larynx, but you haven't yet learned how to adopt and maintain correct vocal posture for ideal resonance, and you haven't trained your pitch up. My recommendation is: choose a note in the female range (like D3). Try to hold "oooooooooooh~" on that note and try to vibrate your lips with the "o" sound. That's the kind of posture you need to maintain while speaking. Get into that kind of posture and try to hold it while speaking loud but relaxed. You may notice your voice has a resonant quality that makes it vibrate throughout the room, this is what we're aiming for. Once you've found it, you want to shoot for that resonant quality that makes the voice vibrate throughout the room moreso than a specific posture. Also if you want to increase your pitch you just have to train it desu, choose a pitch and practice by reading at that pitch consistently and it will increase, you can do this over and over to keep on increasing it.

sorry if this is long winded or weird or makes no sense this is just kinda how I've learned it.

anyway heres me

desu "how to do a girl voice" videos are good. As in not "voice training" videos but like, videos intending to teach a guy how to do a girl voice to troll on games. Transvoicelessons is good too.
Really it all boils down to 2 essential things: Raising your larynx and mimicking a voice you want to sound like.
If you don't have a good mind-muscle connection the second part might need to be broken up into separate things like pitch variance, shrinking the oral space, intonation, etc.
