i was less a fan of The Pale King but it was okay. maybe if it were finished i would have liked it more but also some of the content and the way it was written seemed sort of gross and misogynistic so also maybe not

I feel that this matters, at least to some extent. Bookclubs have always been something that women do much more than men, even during times when men have read more than women, and Goodreads is just an online book club.

I dunno how you could read lit by women about women as a tranny and not fucking slit your wrists. Like real womens lit that goes in deep about all the experiences and realities about what its like to be a real woman, a girl, a mother. Since I've made an effort to read women lit (Katie Kitamura, Elena Ferrante, Miranda July, Maggie O'Farrell) and not my shitty sci fi fantasy books, each one of those books reminded me that IWNBAW and I should just end it

go to goodreads and look at the most read books under "philosophy"
https://www.goodreads.com/genres/most_read/philosophy
it's overwhelmingly self-help, with a little bit of politics and a little bit of pop science
these guys aren't reading anything you would classify as a central example of philosophy.
