I remember reading this book ages ago and noticing that the allegory one of the prisoners makes at the start, that of corpses being stored in the clouds/smoke sounded strangely familiar.
Then, I came across a poem I read ages ago called Todesfuge, where this exact imagery is portrayed.
Later I learned that Viktor was never a prisoner of war, and he just pretended he lived everything firsthand for those sweet sweet shekels.

Almost all camp guards and wardens also tortured them daily at every camp, starved them to the point where cannibalism broke out frequently, forced them to work all the time with absolutely no clothes in the snow and pretty much everyone was frostbitten, crammed them together in tight buildings and busses so cramped and underkept months old vomit, piss and shit was everywhere, beat them visciously over all minute signs of disrespect and rule breaking (you couldnt even cut off pieces of cloth fot extra warmth or youd be beaten and sometimes killed) like stealing very small things like extra crumbs of moldy bread or even asking for things, were beaten and tortured for fun, were made fun of daily and insulted for anything and if they seemed bothered they'd be beaten further...


None of the people here have ever read into anything true about the holocaust and just get their sources from propoganda, as all sheltered morons on 4chan do.
