Based. I'm not buying shit from Amazon either. Shit policies, shit quality, treat their workers worse than dogs, they're awful all around. I buy secondhand or from local libraries that are not ordering from Amazon either. I'm not even losing any money from this, it's just sometimes slightly more inconvenient to find what I want.
I know my brave little boycott won't change a thing but they can absolutely go fuck themselves, I'm deeply convinced that every author deserves better than the likes of Amazon or Spotify, and I never lost anything avoiding them.

I do, although I stopped for a bit in 2021-2022 as sometimes they'd put unpeelable stickers on the covers that said "Ordered with Prime" which was very obnxious as it would damage the cover/ What's more is I have never once ordered anything with Amazon Prime. This happened twice, which may not seem like a lot but it's enough to really annoy me. My copy of Cloud of Unknowing still has the fucking Prime advertising sticker plastered on its front cover.

Amzon's algorithm, although not as good as it used to be, can be seriously helpful at finding new books. When I was reading Burrough's and Celine and other 20th centurty /lit/ it began recommending me novels I'd never heard of at the time like Berlin Alexanderplatz, Petersberg. Truly great for discovering new reads, even if Bezos does want to turn me into an eternal wageslave.

Actually, Yelp is amazing for reading about your favorite restaraunts. I was reading some fat retard complaining about how the french fries at this god-tier mexican place were awful. Another lady complained that they couldn't make her spaghetti.

It's one of my favorite past times. Find your favorite local spots, sort by 1 star reviews and read the dumbest funniest retards crying

The last couple of books I got were ONLY available on amazon.

That said I still like occasionally visiting local bookshops once every couple of months, especially the used bookshop.
The used bookshop has better deals and I can see the condition of the book before I buy with my own eyes.
The big box bookstore has worse prices but a far more enjoyable shopping experience. I can browse the whole store without keywords and SEO nonsense clogging what I am looking at. Plus zero AI books whatsoever when looking at reference and instructional books. Amazon is bloated with such scam books, at least the last time I checked.

You guys are dramatic. Amazon, for all its bad aspects, has dramatically raised the standard of convenience for 90% of the population.

Ok, then it doesn't impact you either way if normies need their AA batteries delivered to them because they don't want to go to a store.

I rarely go to any bookstores these days, even used ones. My go-to instead is Value Village, which always manages to have way better books than 99% of the bookstores in my area. Esp. in rich neighbourhoods. Even when pickings are poor I'll still leave with at least one book; more often a stack.

I'd rather go in person and see what I'm buying, I've gotten multiple misprints and smudged copies of books, and half the time they don't package them properly so they're already dented before I read them. At that point I'd rather get an actual used copy and maybe find something funny scrawled in the margins, or spend an extra 2 bucks on a copy with no blemishes.
