So why did plato retcon the og plurality of his forms and consolidate them into the "form of the good" whatever the fuck this is supposed to mean? I'm more surprised the Athenians didn't try to execute Plato.

Plato's move toward the Form of the Good in The Republic does feel like a philosophical retcon, especially compared to his earlier dialogues where Forms seemed more plural and specific (like the Form of Beauty, Justice, etc.). What Plato seems to be doing isn’t abandoning the plurality of Forms, but rather positing a hierarchy where the Form of the Good is the ultimate source—kind of like the sun in his famous allegory. Everything intelligible and meaningful gets its being and intelligibility
