The premise of "cats in the woods" sounds quite silly, but compared to other books/franchises written for kids they are incredibly deep in regards to the themes and plots they explore. Genocide, war, immigration, racism, religous fanatacism, etc. are all topics explored in the books. As an adult they don't hold up as well. If you were a more "advanced" reader as a kid these were the shit. Its also a very meaty series to sink your teeth into. I think it has in the range of over 1,000 named characters, with lots of subplots and things.
