Can you even be the first to write anything anymore? Has everything already been done before in some form?

>No gooning chud novel
Houellebecq already fits that slot pretty well

It's not about being new. It's about copying good shit people forgot about and rebranding it.

no one has written anying new since gilgimesh, and even that was certainly borrowing from prior oral stories. people give there own twist on all of human lit they care to draw upon.

Needing to be unique, different, or original is a sure sign you're wildly insecure. Popular ideas and themes exist for a reason.

Does it matter? Most young people have no interest in reading old material unless peer pressured.
Just write something you haven't read before and chances are there are other people who haven't read it before.
Do you have any idea how much science fiction was written from 1899 to the present day? Fucking heaps of the stuff. Impressively complex ideas, premonitions of technology, its repurcussions, the hope for a bright future, etc, so many permutations of the same stuff.

We’re at a point where the novel thing to do is recover something lost.

Detective fiction is quite new, so I think as long as new things will be popping up there’s something new to write about
