It would take you 15 years to finish this if you read no other book in the meantime.

I never finished it because everything it was telling me I feel like I already knew. So take that as you will, but maybe I should revisit it with a more open mind. I do still have it.
The reading list he gives >>24466271 is fantastic though

sorry, I havenโ€™t read this book myself, but I hope an alternative might help you. What I can share right now is a passage of advice from a renowned writer who was also an intellectual reader himself ,taken from some essays in Nabokovโ€™s "Lectures on Literature" collection.

I think that should be useful for you.

Objection. The OP asked for "how to read a book"not "what to read."You're misaligned with their actual question.

Stupid anglo-centric list
Commit to one branch of interest and go from there. Trying to gobble up all the slop written in the past 200 years is stupid

Reading all those books wont change the fact you're most likely insufferably annoying to be around. I can just imagine what you're daily chit chat is. Just slamming people with philosophy and useless drivel you deem as important. Philosophy is for teenagers and college aged failures. Extremely cringe to not have learned your lessons at an early age. To have to sit and absorb dozens of philosophy books in adulthood is very telling of where your mental is at. Perhaps you should put down the philosophy books and pick up a job application? Too bad you can't reason your way into employment.

I am insufferable? Look at your response to me saying some books are worth reading. You created a whole damn fan fiction about me.

If you need a book to teach you how to read and engage with a book you should probably just give up.

This board is filled with teenagers and 20 something year old college students who think philosophy is deep and meaningful. It's hard to blame them. They have no real life experience or responsibilities. Just ignore them or bully them. They crave the attention.

The most valuable parts of the book are when it talks about how to know whether or not a book is worth reading in the first place, and how the syntopical reading section. Otherwise it seems to just elevate speed reading and reading things multiple times over to make up for the fact that you speedread it the first time. It also is useless when it comes to reading fiction.
