here's something i wrote about the singularity

>Waiting for the singularity
>They say our race is fucked, I disagree
>The only way to save humanity
>Is giving up the things that make us free

>A hundred years from now, we'll still be here
>With neural chips embedded 'neath our ears
>They'll make us superhuman, lacking fear
>We and the machines will persevere

>Soon, there'll no crime or war or guns
>Our consciousness reduced to naughts and ones
>No one will rebel or misbehave
>We'll never be more free once we're enslaved

Not very good, maybe study Pound and Eliot a bit more if you want to write something more modern?

>The River-Merchant’s Wife: A Letter (excerpt)

>While my hair was still cut straight across my forehead
>I played about the front gate, pulling flowers.
>You came by on bamboo stilts, playing horse,
>You walked about my seat, playing with blue plums.
>And we went on living in the village of Chōkan:
>Two small people, without dislike or suspicion.

Are you fucking kidding me, you faggot? If it doesn't rhyme or have a meter it's not a fucking poem

this was a low effort, cliché exchange, op, im sorry for my part in causing it. i am myself not yet a reader of poetry, but after having seen the yt channel nerdwriter1 breaking down a few poems by shakespeare, dickinson, keats and frost, i have decided to start reading some with the intention to be able to dissect them to see their beauty myself with no need for an intermediary, and to one day hopefully create something beautiful other people like myself can enjoy. any suggestions from /lit/ to help me start my journey of seeking beauty?

The Op is a poor example of metre, because the subject matter and style is clearly not well matched with metre. Just write free verse.

That anon just said rhyme is a prerequisite for poetry.

Shakespeare didn't write like a teenager talking about social media. If you want to use le everyday speech in verse, just write free verse instead of chaining rhythm to it which can only be abrasive in this context and blundering with your skill.

In this case, it's a translation (and I use the term loosely here) of a Chinese poem that did have rhyme and meter.
