I don't know a lot about it, but the vibe is very 1950s with the sci-fi futurism coupled with psychotherapy. If you watch Forbidden Planet it's all "the id rules the ego!!!"

The most interesting thing of all is how Scientology gained a following with actors. It provided something for these actors. Actors can often be plastic people who are desperately lonely and need some kind of safety while trying to make it in Hollywood.

Because he was able to repackage commonsense parts of Freud into a gnostic system that could reliably trigger euphoria for a small part of the population . Furthermore he was able to provide it in a way that that harmonised with the post Christian religious sentiment that grew after WWII.
