I am 33, and I've never read a book in my life.
Should I start now, or is it too late?

start with the greeks.
It is a really late start. You will never be well-read. Your brain is made of cement by now.

Umberto Eco once said that after the age of 23 starting to read for pleasure is mostly pointless. He was a pretentious faggot and I'm glad he's dead.

What do you mean by โ€œtoo lateโ€? Youโ€™re trying to read a book, not run a triathlon.

no, it's not, it's the enthusiasm that counts
if you're truly interested then you can still enjoy the hobby

1 year from now you will be 34, would you rather have read your first book at 33 or be 34 and have never read a book?

truth is most "well read" people get lost... they loose themselves in everything they have read... sometimes it will be even better to just read one book but at least to really understand and embrace it... whatever why should 33 be to late ? Just read if you are interested too do so... you could star at the age of 80

Read the King James Bible, start with the New Testament.

You can read the whole thing in one year if you read just 3-4 chapters each day, which should be about 15-20 minutes.

Retarded take. Why would he need or want to be well-read?
Just imagine how many new things are there to discover and be amazed by just by opening a book for someone who has never done so!
OP should read The Lost World by AC Doyle and something by Jules Verne - 20000 lieges under water, for example. Those were my favorite during childhood.

he wont ever be well read because he wont read. if you haven't felt compelled to read for your entire life, you aren't just going to magically start reading literature in your 30s. if you really haven't read novels for your whole life, you wont be capable of understanding literature. you wouldn't be literate enough.

Your brain stops developing in your mid twenties. If you didn't feed it while it was growing, it will forever be a weakling.

Not true. Brain plasticity is more than previously thought. New neurons are produces, and brain structure changes throughout life.
