>>24491970 (OP)Speed readers are retards. You don't read literature the same way you would read a business email, just robotically intaking information in the most efficient way possible. Reading literature is a contemplative activity that involves lingering over a text, appreciating its various meanings and contradictions, reading forwards and backwards, re-reading, cross-referencing, analyzing its formal features, exercising one's imagination to the fullest extent possible in order to build out the world and the emotional lives of the characters. Speed readers are mainly interested in marking books off a checklist, "finishing" them in order to tell others they've read them and produce wikipedia-level summaries of the "plot" and "themes".
