How come this one novel has garnered so much praise and cult following, specially (if not exclusively) among the Anglos? Not only as ostensible from browsing /lit/ —we have reached a point where every Dick, Tom and Harry are wetting their pants over this ''sensation''. Does it justify its length? Is it really that special or just a glorified slog?

I read Los detectives salvajes a long time ago, which I found enjoyable but nothing so exhilarating. So I'd rather read a few of your thoughts before comitting myself to it.

It's a masterpiece. In my top 5 for sure. One of those books that as you get to the end of it you wish it was maybe 100 pages longer

Imagine a book recommended by a black woman made it to lit. It says a lot about this place's ability to discern quality. How many more untranslated books out there are better than the top 100 list?
