>>24495995>Schopenhauer: “Harm no one, but rather help everyone as much as you can.”this is actually the claim that
all moralists attempt to ground . . . the actual foundation of ethics that
people have sought for millennia, just as they have looked for the philosophers’
stone.” – The difficulty involved in grounding the claim just cited
might be great indeed – Schopenhauer himself came up famously short
in this regard. And anyone who has ever truly felt how inanely false and
sentimental this claim is in a world whose essence is will to power –,
they might recall that Schopenhauer, pessimism notwithstanding, actually
– played the flute . . . every day, after dinner. You can read it in his
biography. And just out of curiosity: a pessimist who negates both God
and world but stops before morality, – who affirms morality and plays
his flute, affirms laede neminem morality: excuse me? is this really – a
pessimist?
Help me understand, if you will... Why not? What is your claim for morality in the world Schoppy describes?
>>24495997While Arthur Schopenhauer didn't explicitly "negate God" in the sense of actively denying a personal God, his philosophy strongly suggests a rejection of traditional theistic views, particularly those found in Western religions.
