Read however you want. If you want to subvocalize, then do, but if you're looking for ways to read faster, cutting out subvocalization is by far the most efficient way.

Why would you need to read faster? You're not absorving information if you just rush through books. It feels so shallow, such a vapid aproach to literature, it sickens me.

It's just a skill like any other. Being able to subvocalize doesn't mean that you never subvocalize.
If you're doing academic work that requires you to find relevant information in twenty 400 page books, then I'd like to read them over quickly and save time for attentively reading the books and sections that are actually pertinent to what I'm doing.
If I'm reading a complicated book, I'll slow down and subvocalize, if I'm reading a disposable murder mystery for plot alone, I won't subvocalize.

I only sub-vocalize poetry, Shakespeare, and exceptional prose. I find it hard to believe people sub-vocalize while the reading something inane like a random post on 4chan... But I'm often reminded people are actually stupid and illiterate and not just pretending, and I pity them.

Subvocalization takes time without increasing comprehension.
