Why is literature so shitty now? The last good novelist was Antony Trollope
>>24498400If you possess an eye for new and vigorous art, then, my good man, have you chanced upon the Irishman James Joyce?
>>24498400>everyone agrees that only European literature matters >the continent just did collective suicide Hmm, i wonder why noone is writing anymore. Probably because everyone is dead or too traumatized.
And no, socialist slop will never be real literature, fuck off.
>>24498390 (OP)Has anyone read that new book Ulysses by a guy called John Jones or something? I've heard lots of good things from Europe but I can't find it in my local book store.
>>24498390 (OP)Saw some dame reading that new Great Gatsby novel from that floozy-marrying bastard whose star has faded before it shone. I gave a right good smack across the lip for being so public about reading such tripe. Weโre set to be married next week.
>>24498473I personally know the author of the novel you mentioned. Met him once at a tavern. He's a good sport but his madam was screwy.
>>24498390 (OP)Iโd have to recommend the abridged version of this but not the unabridged. The latter is unnecessary long.
Growing up on the farm. I didn't even there was such a thing as "cocaine". And now I can't stop doing it! Alcohol is nice, as is tobacco.
What were we talking about again? oh yes, books. I can't bring myself to read when hundredthousandairs are throwing these "drug" parties every night.
Keep your dull books to yourself.
This Hitler guy sounds promising
>>24498390 (OP)These dixies need to learn to read. Raise a bunch of niggers and they become one. How on God's green Earth have they not read Darwin's theory of evolution? Snopes just teaching enlightenment theory and now we have a boatload of fundamentalists crying foul.
>>24498467Why is there no good modern /lit/ about getting macheted by Somalis?
>>24498512We have that already
>Black Hawk Down
Damn bocce apologist, I wish Luxemburg won just so she could make your terrible country even worse to atone for your crimes against Belgium
>>24498502This Hitler guy sounds like a filthy Semite.
>>24498390 (OP)The Gertrude Stein clique in Paris is just a bunch of poser faggots. Nobody will remember the slop they're churning out.
>>24498470Don't bother, read it while on holiday in England not but a year ago: I found it to be nothing but modernist jibber-jabber, probably written by a communist. Mr. Joyce has some other books and I don't know if they're similar - frankly I don't want to know! Steer clear of it and stick to proper Anglo-Saxon literature such as Ben-Hur without any (((Irish)))) deconstructionism.
>>24498470Bloody madman that one. Horrible writing. Bloody scandalous. Entirely unconducive to the betterment of oneโs moral character. The Irish have never been able to construct a well and good novel because the language was imposed upon them. Their savage minds have not yet developed their powers to acquire the wit necessary to express oneself in the novel form. Save for their inherent low cunning I would think all forms of industry and elocution beyond them.
>get into military academy in 1917
>war fucking ends
>get sent to the fucking Philippines
Books for this horrendous feel? I think I'm just gonna start fucking these little gooks until a disease kills me.
Things sure move fast these days. They say the new American warship can cross the Atlantic in three days! Why, I remember back in 1914 it took them three years to do the same!
>>24498502nothing ever happens
I enjoyed reading The Iliad
>>24498470He accosted my wife during an embarrassing episode of flatulence
>>24498502You mean my cousin Adolf Shecklegrubber?
Bros, why did they call it the First World War? Are my local mystics the bee's knees or baloney? Anyways which books will help me get a gal?
>>24499186It was originally called The Great War because of how much fun everyone had.
>get myself down to the local book depository
>have myself a shiny new buffalo nickle and plan to purchase the complete works of Shakespeare with it
>but the door is closed and locked!
>hey, what's going on around here? What's the big idea?
>newsie round the corner says 'hey mister, didnt ya hear? The circus is in town! Everyone's closed shop early, you see?'
>well I was so shucks darn mad I threw off my boater and stomped it into a pancake!
>'the circus?!' I says. 'THE CIRCUS?!'
>those Ringling Brothers and their filthy Chinamen acrobats cleared out the whole town.
>one would think the book retailer of all people would forego all that cheap jazz-- elephants and clowns and whatnot.
>BUT I SUPPOSE NOT.
>I guess it's back to writing letters to my friend in Hindustan. I'm sure he will feel sympathy for my plight.
>>24499230>jazzI think you meant "jiggery pokery"
I love my secret Irish family, I'm going to send them a copy of The Pilgrim's Progress. I hope they come to embrace Protestantism
H. L. Mencken stands out as probably the greatest American mind today, leagues better than that slapdash comedian Will Rogers, I have no respect for him or those that read his crummy columns
Stoddardbros, is it cool if my wife is Chinese?
This hemingway dude is a hammett copy cat but without the noir to entertain. Heard he's being mentored by Stein in Paris and will soon release his first novel
>>24499400I am so goddamn sick of that and detective novels, excuse the language. All anyone ever reads nowadays. Buncha monkeys at typewriters churning out this immoral, depraved trash, I tell you.
>>24499258Niggery pokery I call it.
Anyway, the reason poetry is so shit now is because of the romantics. Before, poets knew how to write poetry properly with end stopped couplets, then savages like Keats came along with their shitty โinnovativeโ enjambment and the next thing you know you have all this French libre slop. Crabbe was the last gasp of English poetry
So fucking tired of this femslop. What type of madness drives a man to write specifically towards woman?
for inspiration

>>24500983>What type of madness drives a man to write specifically towards woman?A hard dick.
>>24498473I will let you know that was SEVERELY rude and uncharismatic of you! Completely unbecoming of a proper gentleman! Can't a lady have her fujoshi moments to herself huh!? It did turn me on though...
> Daisy was such a babe and it woulda slapped if Gatsby just became a cuckold instead.
Gee that story was all flimflam. Thoughts on this disaster?
what should I name my publishing company? I was thinking of naming it after a species of bird or something like that.Toucan publishing any good?
This Virginia Woolf spinster seems to think women need a room of their own. But women already got a room of their own, see? The Kitchen.
>>24501145Wouldn't it be funny if a hundred years from now our grandchildren were a bunch of old people who had collective meltdowns over this book's existence every year or so? But surely there's no way such a short, simple book could filter so many people.
The Brits have been enjoying this whale book. Anyone ever heard of it?
>>24502262>yankee religious fanatic novelsI'll just go to a big tent preacher.
