She is objectively correct, and this is an issue with subversion in modern media. Female characters who exhibit traits traditionally associated with masculinity are heralded as progressive and forward-thinking; likewise, male characters who exhibit the opposite traits are demeaned. The liberated woman is the masculine woman; the tethered man is the feminine man. Assigning masculinity as the standard of behavior is the core issue, and the chivalric knights of yore would find contemporary masculinity ghastly and foolish.

Feminists are so good at narratives! I remember a similar logic with the word "man" vs "woman" which implied something along the lines that women were secondary or something because "woman" is based on "man" but the actual etymology shows they were different words that didnt come from the other, which simply developed into what they are now.
