Islam has appeal when you look at it from afar. When close up, it gets too absurd with the personality cult of Muhammad, for me. Feel free to prove me wrong, but I don't think the ur-religio is actually about larping like a 7th century arab. It should be more universal than that. More about your sincere connection to God, rather than showing to others how much you mimic everything Muhammad did. Hadiths are a bit ridiculous too. Other than that it has a lot of good things going for it.

As far as the actual monotheism of Islam goes it's by far the purest of any religion and it kind of makes me question how it took so long for that kind of monotheism to even become widespread among humans. Monotheism must not be that close to our nature then. The Jews made it a special club and the Christians turned it into a trinity involving a person, clearly inspired from Greco-Roman deification practices.
