If the translation is good (might not be, because the book uses insanely idiosyncratic language), this shit will be one of the biggest events in sci fi literature ever. I don't know if you're ready. Drops in january next year

>idiosyncratic language
Not really a problem for translation, common everyday idiomatic language in all of its banality is far more difficult.

wait this is actually happening for real lol? they've been talking about a translation for 10+ years at least. how are they dealing with the language shit?

>>24504445
it has a bunch of stylization that's highly language-specific, like mixing polish and russian, which is natural because the languages are already related and have mixed historically. i don't know how you'd russify english and not end up with something totally wacky and fake like clockwork orange. also for a huge chunk of the book the protagonist decides he "doesn't really exist" and proceeds to write in a kind of depersonalized style where "a door is opened" instead of "i opened a door," which works because slavic languages already abound in that kind of "passive" grammar but i don't know how you'd render that in english without it being extremely annoying.

i'm worried they'll just drop the stylistic stuff altogether.

>— Ba! Sam to sobie zrobił.
>— Khr!
>— Toteż właśnie — trzeba mi was odtruć, zanim tak zamarzniecie. — Von Azenhoff wyłonił się z kolejnego zamroku z grymasem ironicznym, kąśliwym. — Mój dobry uczynek na ten miesiąc!
>Huzar wybuchnął basowym śmiechem.

how are they going to translate this without offending trannies?

very dense alt-history brick of a novel in which the tunguska meteorite brought extraterrestrial frost lifeforms that caused history itself to freeze so that ww1 and the russian revolution never occurred. story is set in alt-1920s and it's about a mildly schizo loser travelling across the russian empire to find his father that reportedly communicates with the frost lifeforms. elaborate political intrigue occurs. text is full of cool stylistic devices that won't survive translation and historical detail a western audience will find incomprehensible and uninteresting. about seven hipsters will read it and claim to really like it. one of them will say he's going to learn polish to read the original but nothing will come of it in the end.

can't comment on the russian translation but the book itself is excellent. very dense and slowly paced though. you should also consider pic related, which is available in russian, and is a really nutty book that's more like "alt-physics" where ancient greek conceptions of physics are literally true

it's even sadder when you look at what he's been doing since that article was written, which is just a string of vaporware video game projects. he has just quietly left the videogame studio he started in 2022 "to make games based on his writing," which as far as i can tell never did anything or had any staff other than himself and another writer, and immediately opened a second studio with the same premise. at the same time he's trying to be an ai business guru or something. sad times. just write a good novel again you dumbass
