All agree our current linguistic devices are too impotent to capture the spirit of our age. Commas are too pert, semi-colons too pompous, en and em-dashes too short, full stops too brutal; it is time for the creation and adoption of a sign imbued with all the contradiction (and yes, irony) of the current world-period.

BOMPA
BOMPA
md5: d77ca69ca7a1684278e5dee75de04f87🔍
My proposal is the BOMPA (all caps), a mark that, when placed after a word, phrase, or sentence, signifies that the opposite meaning is intended and implied by the speaker, in addition to the original meaning.

Thus a word, phrase, or sentence is doubled and reversed upon itself. This would allow writers to approach paradox without spectacle, and contradiction without verbosity.

For example, one could write:
I look forward to old age (BOMPA mark)
I love you (BOMPA mark)
I'm happy (BOMPA mark)
I intend to serve my constituents with the greatest energy and goodwill (BOMPA mark)

I agree.
I quite like ellipsis as long as they aren't overused.

I especially like them when used as a aposiopesis instead of a em dash.

I disagree. Em dashes are so much stronger and faster. Ellipsis is still good, just for different purposes.

I prefer ellipsis because I can actually type them with my keyboard instead of sorting through the symbol menu using "win+;" to find the right dash.
Also gives the effect I want, and most people read them in ways I expect.
Meanwhile some people read or comprehend em dashes weird.
