>The average reading speed for adults is approximately 238 words per minute (wpm) when reading silently and 183 wpm when reading aloud
There is no way you niggers read this fast, this is just speedrunning, not reading

takes practice. the steps are 1) steadying the eyes, start by focus on the word, then line, then paragraph, etc. 2) question how much you absorbed, repeat #1 on a new word, line, etc., repeat. 3) contemplate if the writer completed the thought, point, idea., compare with what you absorbed. If yes, you are going at a good pace. If no, slow your pace to accompany the writer - pick out the key words/phrases they use and the human brain "learns" how to fill the simple context between them (i.e Maxewell went to the store and (insert keywords here) and said to the clerk (insert keyphrase). 4) expand the eyes focus to sections of the page - whatever you can handle - till you are reading at a pace you need/enjoy.

Doing any of this is retarded if you’re reading anything with more difficulty or complexity than a pop sci book or a light hearted novel. If the speed of your fucking eyes limits you before your comprehension does, what you’re reading isn’t worth reading in the first place.

that's more than a minute to read one page of fiction. doesn't seem very fast at all.

Depends on what you read.
Self help or romance fantasy, since they’re easy to understand with simple words and concepts you can read really fast.

Books with more complex concepts or vocabulary you’re going to read more slowly. Even if you skim them.

Anyway, being proud of reading fast is like being proud of finishing fast.

All it takes is an inner monologue. Most people on this board aren't NPCs so we never had to practice at all.

why is the speed with which one read a book, such a fucking issue.
Running? Everyone is fine with knowing someone will be fastest, someone will be abysmally low, and everyone else somewhere in between.
You read at the speed you read at.
The so called speed reading techniques? reading only the "topic sentence" of every paragraph and every "conclusion sentence" pf the end of every paragraph.
You're not comprehending and retaining doing that.
Nor doing any "insert method here" meme course or book.
TL;DR --- oh look, its this stupid pointless thread again.
