Is male reading crisis real? Even if you normalize by ignoring the smut?

What stats are you using to track male reading habits?
Goodreads? Amazon? Libraries? Blogs?

I buy my books from used bookstores, they're not keeping records. If I can't get it from there, I just get a free pdf online, they're also not keeping records.
I'm a man and nobody knows how many or what books I own, and I suspect this is the case for the vast majority of men that do read.

I buy a copy of Plato's complete works, and it takes me over a year to read it, and nobody will ever know of it. I'm a ghost.
Women buy a copy of smut of the week slop from the brand new book store, they've got a store loyalty card, they leave a review, they make a youtube video about it, they had a goodreads, etc, their reading habits are tracked. They read a new book every week because they're reading slop and everyone knows about it

If we define "reading" as reading the classics, which are the only things worth reading, everything else is just trash and not worthy of being considered reading, then men are the only ones who read at all. No woman is reading the classics

Yup, but it’s a two-way street. Bitter, emotionally deprived feminists run the publishing industry and actively snub manuscripts from male authors as they continue to churn out products that don’t sell, and are artificially propped up by government arts grants and donors. Likewise, the men who would have written novels 100 years ago are now playing or developing shit videogames, watching porn, smoking weed, or if they’re more diligent speculative fictioners - they’re caught shoulders deep in the Sandersonian world-building trap, and haven’t actually produced a single written story (nor will they ever). It’s a broader, cultural issue that reflects our modern problems.

I agree with this, it's fairly hard to find some classics where I live too, if you're buying new. There's a huge used market for them, and you can get them cheaper and in great condition so it's not as convenient as buying new. The only classics most women read are Jane Austen, the Brontë sisters or the latin american boom writers, maybe philosophy if they're liberal arts girls

I've said it before but I'm pretty sure there is no actual "male reading crisis"
What's happening is retards are assuming that if someone doesn't post about it then it isn't happening

OP? Buy a fucking ad. Or, get a "sticky" put up to prevent the waste of a perfectly viable thread, for this insipid bullshit.

The Sardonicast that didn't know the 120 days of Sodom was a book? The Sardonicast who (EXTREMELY ironically, I mean holy fuck) could not remember the name of the main character of The Man Who Wasn't There? The Sardonicast that has a dogfucker? The Sardonicast that has Ralph "Embarassing eternal film student" Sepe? The Sardonicast that has no deeper takes on anything aside from saying "Like, uhh, the lighting was pretty good, I think... uhh yeah the acting was good" No thanks. Everyone on that is like Tim from On Cinema in that they force themselves to be a movie guy yet don't watch movies and know nothing. Except On Cinema is actually funny

It's not that I'm deliberately going under the radar, is that everything encompassed by the radar is shit nobody cares about

Men don't use goodreads, that shit is cringe
Men don't sign up for things, nobody is asking me about my life and I don't care to tell anyone.
I'm not hiding, I'm just not interested in social networking shit about books

Literally me. Having autism and being a permaneet might contribute to it, but I just don't feel like announcing to the world what I'm doing in my private life. It gives me the ick because
1) It's my private life, others don't need to know what I'm up to. I'll tell them personally if I know it'll interest them.
2) It's meaningless to anyone but me.
But alas I'm a hypocrite because I log which movies I watch on letterboxd. That's my largest "online presence", but I only do it for myself because I'm autistic about movies, and it makes my data look nice. I don't use the social features of that platform.
