Marxism is not materialist: It completely rejects the idea of genetics and that is why it rejects biological essentialism, race realism, genetic determinism, instead replacing it with the idea that only material wealth matters and is the main mover of history.
one cannot be a true materialist (physicalist) and reject the idea of dna, which if done would be contrary to most of feminist, anti-racist and idealist universalist ideas.
marxists tend to be egalitarian and believers in equality, they are just as universalists as christians are, but this is impossible in a physicalist worldview, this is an idealist worldview where the metaphysical (mind or spirit) is what every being is bound to and that metaphysical part makes us equal. but in physicalism we are bound to dna which makes us not equal, there is no "metaphysical mind/consciousness/soul" that turns all men equal.
