>>24513560 (OP)The author is mostly based with some occasional weird takes about politics and is definitely no pacifist but I did enjoy most of his first novel. There are some parts with a bit too much fan-service (for my taste) but I guess he wanted to throw a bone to the younger audience that is still in the heavy grip of their raging hormones.
I'm curious about his take on the ethics of war and I hope he finds the opportunity to weave this into one of his next three novels somehow as I grew up in a pacifistic household (we didn't talk much at home so it was just "war's bad, mkay") so I'm curious about his take as he is/was involved with the defense industry. You can tell he has CS and engineering background that found its way into some well executed action scenes that were exciting to read and I've enjoyed it but I'm not really a big reader so ymmv. There are lots of Easter eggs in this novel that will trigger some nostalgia in people of a certain vintage and nerdy way of growing up. I would say if you enjoyed "the expanse" you will most definitely enjoy this but if you're a hard-core leftist you might want to skip it. I found some parts of this novel weirdly relatable but I guess I'm a schizo.
Pic related because he makes us wait for the second novel that is overdue but I guess managing the health issues in his family and directing the audio-book took more effort than anticipated.
