Always has something interesting to say
The problem he’s a relativist; he’s actually very openminded, and not critical enough, which leads (and with his racial background) to relativism

He's fun to read and has based opinions. He said in an interview that Octavio Paz was a better poet than Neruda, Borges, Vallejo, and Mistral, which was interesting to know as a Paz fan.

Don’t agree with him but he’s interesting to listen to or read. Nobody gayer for Shakespeare in the modern age. It’s refreshing to hear someone praise great books and authors without the constant fucking attacking of principles or “questioning” the canon etc.

Check the archives for the stickied thread we had for him if you want tru-/lit/'s opinion of him. nu-/lit/ is filled with /pol/-brained retards that don't read and are solely here to wank themselves.

An absolute joke of a literary historian past his Stevens monograph, and far less apolitical than he presented himself to be. Just compare how he elevates mediocre jewish authors with how he tries to sandbag chuddy authors like Céline, Pound, Eliot or Wyndham Lewis despite their obvious accomplishments. He also couldn't help himself with engaging in the old jewish pasttime of constructing tall tales about himself, like when he claimed that he read at the speed of a thousand pages per hour or some shit.

All in all if I wanted to read a jewish literary historian with a knack for intellectual posturing and fraud I'd much rather read George Steiner.
