are there any self help books that are actually any good? or is the genre inherently slop for finance fags and therapy chicks?

The problem with self-help books is that most of them become obsolete once you acquire a certain knowledge of philosophy and some competence on thinking things by yourself. The best one would be a history of philosophy textbook.
But there are lots of good ones, two that are actually great are Barbara Oakley's Learning How to Learn and a Mind for Numbers.

I read self help constantly and have read dozens of them. Here are my favourite ones;

Atomic Habits by James Clear
The War of Art by Steven Pressfield
How to Be Miserable by Randy J. Paterson
