Though ambitious, it's kind of a snotty novel. Warholic, and An Adultery, are both better (although I don't like how either conclude)

It was a clever great American novel but it indulge itself for how clever it is. Never read anything else from him but I see why he wouldn’t, probably feels like it’s looking at an inexperienced version of himself, Probably doesn’t like that the premise is his self insert is a cuckold that slashes his Duckys off; or maybe he doesn’t like it’s all worded
