why did Arthur and Asimov suck att writing aliens?

i like this book but it gets way overhyped as a sci-fi masterpiece when it's effectively just asking questions about the world and never providing answers.

it's a fun popcorn adventure but it's mostly just vague gesturing at something cool that might happen.

asimov did aliens pretty well in The Gods Themselves

i don't know what you're talking about. i didn't feel disappointed at all. we knew from the beginning that they wouldn't be able to make a full excavation of the ship before it would leave the solar system. i was satisfied with the answers we got and the things that were left unsolved. the alien jumpsuit was a good payoff as the last alien artifact we are shown.
