Why'd you feel the need to make this post? No judgement just wondering, did you want to be heard?

A fictional one. As far as I can tell Catcher In The Rye exists specifically for imaginary edgelords to worship. No real people actually think it's good.

A normal guy. Probably hasn't read much since high school ended. One of those types that's into football and thinks Seth McFarlane is a genius but actually turns out to be pretty likable and reasonably intelligent.

Probably an idiot.
Dummies think its some long apologia for angst and wanderlust.
In reality its just a bottling of the "feels" that you get going to NE boarding school when you get out on break/get to ride the bus into the city, and got mistaken as more than that. I was not at all surprised to learn he was a boarder.

Middle class upbringing. Late teens, early twenties. Votes Republican, but more ideologically like a libertarian or ayn rand type. Probably thinks Joe Rogan is awesome. Very pedestrian interests. Played Skyrim as a kid or early teen. Had a brief Radiohead phase, but currently describes the band as "weird" or "avant gart" (misspelling included). Had a brief fling with a girl in community College or early university, but you've seem to have gone different directions. Lukewarm relationships both with mom and dad. Pleasant childhood. Smoked weed a few times. Never been to Europe - driver's license but no passport.

My uncle, who's actually a generally cool guy and not an edgelord at all. I'm kind of curious why he likes it so much, but my entirely rational and well deserved hatred of that utter piece of shit "book" prevent me from having an honest discussion about it.

I imagine the emotionally unstable woman in the mental ward I was in who wanted to date me and gave me The Catcher in the Rye telling me it was her favourite book. She really saw herself in it, she said.

I read it in a day and told her I didn't get it. Still don't.

can't imagine anyone who makes their personality 'reading novels/movies' as ever having anything interesting to say
they're whores of the soul, they believe in nothing sacred indomitably, just as actors have no sincerity
emotional schizophrenic

I think Holden Caulfield is unfairly assessed. People like to $#!* on that character, but I remember finding him funny and often relatable. I suspect people hate the book to fit in more than anything else. It's part of growing up to hate on Holden Caulfield in an effort to feign relative maturity.

This is a little off topic, bit I feel like battle-axe wives are the ultimate argument against the whole alpha-beta collection of concepts. Are we really going to act like beaten down old guys with overly demanding wives are part of the same class as basedboy cucks? I think battle-axe wives show that it doesn't matter what you believe about gender roles in an abstract sense, because if you marry a battle-axe, it doesn't matter how dominant you are. They're called battle-axes for a reason, you know. Their husbands don't give in due to a naturally submissive nature, their husbands give in because life will be very hard and miserable if they don't.

Definitely a teenager book, but its not a bad book. I'd imagine someone young, smart for his age, but somewhat anxious or insecure.

I like Salinger and I think this book is overhated
Everywhere it doesn't get forced on teenagers at school its well-liked
I think its a subconscious reaction because when reading it with a teacher who forces you to analyse it in a very politically correct sort of way it feels like being judged for some people.
I read it on my own because it was not taught where I lived. I actually felt very sorry for Holden even if I didn't have an edgy phase and his voice was very strong and authentic
