>I’ve got this pathological disrespect for Jim Morrison and the whole myth that surrounds Jim Morrison, simply because it affects and has affected the people in bands and in the rock business, in that they think they have to act like fucking prats in order to live up to the legend. […] Jim Morrison’s a fat, talentless bastard and he’s dead. And none of that means anything. It’s more important just to have your own voice within the business than to live up to this thing that you’re supposed to live up to.
Why is this small time British singer insulting an American legend?

A lot of millennials are completely blind to this. It’s actually sad looking at all the millenniboomers in white hair and rock band tshirts stinking up the place at concerts and music shops. Most of all their delusional belief that their genres “still got it” as if they’re popular and relevant.
Even the “stars” are fucking geriatric at this point, some still strutting about on stage about to break a hip. This prompts no awareness from the fans.

I think it’s because Rock was so mainstream they can stay delusional. You don’t see Goths unaware they’re a dead period piece.

I can agree that Rock as an actively dominant genre is basically dead. I also agree that all the geriatrics still performing on stage are a tad embarresing but whatever. That said, there's nothing wrong with appreciating it and it's glory days, same could be said about Classical and Jazz. You'd have to be incredibly nigger/zoomer brained to actually view it through those simplistic and internet-rage-bait lenses. I'm 27 and Rock is my primary genre of choice and always will be. I'm talking the the old shit too, the 1960's are my favourite decade in music.

"I listened to Radiohead once — sounded like a robot having a nervous breakdown in a thunderstorm. People call that genius? Back in my day, we used harmonies, not haunted modem sounds. Thom Yorke’s voice? Like a ghost with asthma. They’re out there trying to reinvent the wheel, but forgot how to drive. I spent six months writing 'God Only Knows' — they sound like they wrote an album during a fire drill. Dissonance is cool if you know what consonance is first. They’re not ahead of their time, they’re just bad at being in one."

>same could be said about Classical
I disagree. Classical may not be anywhere near as popular as the current Top 40 radio hits but it arguably has more cultural clout than it's ever had. It was never meant to be for the masses but there are more people now that at least know of the biggest names and their most famous songs than when those guys were alive.

But Jazz I feel is pretty much dead except for a small group of avid fans and rock is pretty much only kept alive by people in the 50+ age bracket.

I'm an American and do think the Bongs are probably better at rock music than we are. I saw Tesseract open a concert recently and the singer (who also looked the part of a British rock singer) was doing all the moves. I dunno they seem very at ease with "theatrical" performance and poetry and melody but combined with a rough and Rust Belt layer of British society or shaped by that.

I've got to link this, there has been just a ton of these guys:

Bongs are (or at least were) good at goth too, but yeah, goth is actually comfortable being dead, or being at ease with its own undeadness. In essence it's an internal or inward-facing artistic tradition in Western culture.

This generational cope is a bit silly though. Zoomers aren't much different from millennials because there's less of a technological gap between them. (Also millennials are a bit larger in size.) I think the idea of a distinct youth culture is probably going to die off, at least something as strong as it had been. It's something that came about in the 60s/70s because the experience of the youth growing up post-war was radically different from their parents and grandparents due to rapid economic and technological change.

Sure, you could argue that Americans "invented" rock in the primitive form that it existed with Chuck Berry, but the genre would have been completely forgotten by now if it wasn't elevated by the British in the 60s and 70s into what it became. It's pretty insane that PF, LZ, and Bowie still sound sexy to this day. Beatles derivatives still regularly top charts in the 21st century.

At certain point they were just inspired by their peers. Those who did it better contributed more than those who did it first. Also, blacks and Anglos wouldn't have guitars if the Spanish hadn't invented them. We would always play the game of going back to previous eras, what matters are individual contributions.
