I've been to SK, Japan, Dubai, PI (Manila), Europe, and other places. In my humble opinion, you're looking at surface level conveniences and mistaking them for innermost moral-spiritual substance. This is doubly worse because we're in a time when populations are shifting around tremendously and we're about to see massive boom-bust population cycles. Just look at the age charts and migration policies of countries around the world. And that's assuming that Toynbee's European civilization still exists. It doesn't. Eating with a fork and knowing who Tom Cruise is does not make up for the fact that we don't even call European civilization European anymore, but western, and Europeans have become cultureless whites. There are no judo moves left for Europe. It's going to be a quick slide down the poop-chute into historical obscurity.

Politically, because it has cooperated with Burgerstan ever since it was conquered and occupied at the end of WWII, and remained a part of the first world in opposition to China and the USSR. But that does not mean your average Jap is the same as your average Yuro, they still believe themselves to be something very different and hold different values, behaviors, ways of relating to each other.
If your argument is that because they share cutting edge technology and participate in the global economy, that it makes them western, then it would be more correct to say that it's technology dissolving all of the world's cultures, including Europe's.
