Ligotti's most underrated book. Although it has the smallest share of his short stories at 8 only, those are some of his best and I have read everything the man has written. From Beckettian strangeness of Strange design of Master rignolo through The Medusa, the first instance of Ligotti's unique vision of horror as a state of mind, punctuated, in his most poignant piece, by Conversations in a dead language and delivering, finally, The Tsalal which is the most well constructed short story in the weird tradition. Strong showings in Mr. Rinaldi's angel and Mad night of atonememt also. It is amazing.
But I wish he had left out the r/nosleep tier pamphlets that are stuffed at the end.

It's underrated because it's never been in print other than in limited quantities. Even the ebook isn't for sale anymore so you have to shell out $100+ for a physical copy or pirate it.
