Last one I did was One Hundred Years of Solitude, the jet lag fucked my head with that one

I like reading travelogues. Even better if it’s related to where you’re going. Paul Theroux has some good ones. The Great Railway Bazaar. Steinbeck has Travels with Charley. Some people love Bill Bryson, try his Down Under. Or you could read something about travel in general like On The Road or Shackelton’s Journeys.
