The traditional cope is to say that they weren‘t as good. Personally I get big "only listen to their early stuff" vibes from this—that is—parochial favoritism for the more familiar.

The Iliad and Odyssey we have aren't the "real deal" anyway, oral epics vary wildly every time they're told since no one can perfectly memorize that many lines, so what we have is just a couple of signings that could've been warped beyond recognition by time

It's obviously not cope. The Classics like Plato are bursting with quotations from Homer, but barely any quotations from the non-Homeric epics.

Why did Homer choose to incorporate his work into such a mid universe then, why make references to the Trojan horse if the work it's from isn't very good

He doesn't. The Trojan Horse - according to the Odyssey, not the Iliad, the instrument of Troy's capture - was, Pausanias says, a simple siege engine (perhaps a scaling tower faced with wet horse-hides as a protection against fire) rather than a secret receptacle for armed Greeks.

I'm working on editing together transltions of all the summaries and tesimonia of the lost epic cycle. I've never seen it done before, which is surprising, the Loeb editions come closest which have the summaries of Proclus with some extra details from Apollodorus, but there's much more than what's found in those two sources.

Just finished the Cypria, which chronologically comes before the Iliad. It's probably the best-attested one, so I was able to create a pretty full narrative that leads directly into the wrath of Achilles. The three epics between the Iliad and Odyssey will be difficult because they overlap in subject matter, so later authors either conflated them together or cut out the parts that contradict when they summarised them. I'm using mostly public-domain translations so I should be able to post them freely online.

But Robert Graves inserted sex-cult female goddess sacrifice sexual porn. Robert Graves is basically the Werewolf Omegaverse of classicism. That's why Robert Graves is Great.

Yes, the goddess in question being the Muse Calliope, who all poets praised to for inspiration, who they also directly refer to as the daughter of Zeus. You must be a retard who knows nothing about Greek poetry.
