Does anyone remember this fellow: Quentin Scobie, The Madman of Leeds, author of cult alt-lit novel Baby Alex, and host of YouTube channel The Book Club?
After an extended hiatus, his most recent The Book Club video about Thomas Hobbes's Leviathan includes an idiosyncratic reference that apparently introduces his new satirical alt-lit project: The Cronemverse.
A bit of research on the archives gave me an idea as to what he's been working on, but it is hard to describe. Basically, he has been using AI image, text, and music generation, along with various proxies and front end tools, to flood 4chan with thousands of posts about black immigrants he calls the cronem who spend their time having sex with underage white female schoolchildren in the Gherkin office building in downtown London.
The characters are all one-dimensional racist caricatures: the "cronem" steal cars, smoke cannabis, eat jerk chicken, listen to dancehall, and have large penises (a lot of his effort goes into coming up with new euphemisms for them in particular). The "Katies" are underage schoolchildren who are preyed on by the cronem, much to the dismay of the "Timmies", white men who either don't have sex or settle for non-white women.
According to a simple archive search of his key phrases, he has been working on this diligently for about three years before unveiling it to a wider audience on his YouTube channel. There is no discernible narrative yet, but perhaps he is still world building. At this point, the volume of all the posts could easily fill a novel if not multiple. It's not clear why he chose to release it now in an unfinished state, but maybe he plans to change platforms from 4chan to somewhere bigger.
What's your take on this radical new direction Quentin has taken with his craft?
