My entire family was dead before I was 18. I was homeless for a bit and now at age 30 I clawed my way out of poverty and have an okay job.

I feel like I'm missing out on life and was hoping to read a book written by someone with advice applicable to my situation. Are there any books written by someone who went through what I went through? I really just don't identify or connect with normal people who have normal thoughts.

Thanks.

You should definitely read the highlights of the black/African canon before tackling that beast. Here are a few in pic related.

I wish the book wasn't so black and white (but this time from the other side!!11!) parts of it are genuinely amazing but it falls flat and lifeless, the for the most part one-sided conception of the world restricts the books artistic merit. The point it makes is interesting (especially with my love for Stirner) but the embarassingly shallow world doesn't allow for any philosophical depth.

There are some classic philosophy/self-help books by people who endured great suffering. Epictetus might help you out, or someone like Viktor Frankl. But my number one rec would be "How It Is" by Samuel Beckett.

There are no discrepancies in his story, you havent read it. You're just mad because they are jewish and you are insane.

Anyways Frankl and Epictetus' philosophies and lessons are basically a massive chunk of what modern positive psychology is if you dive into positve psychology, Epictetus far moreso due to the sheer quantity of lessons. Both will change you.

Tons of discrepancies, fag
>"In The Missing Pieces of the Puzzle: A Reflection on the Odd Career of Viktor Frankl, Professor of history Timothy Pytell of California State University, San Bernardino, surveys the numerous discrepancies and omissions in Frankl's "Auschwitz survivor" account and later autobiography, which many of his contemporaries, such as Thomas Szasz, similarly have raised.[32] In Frankl's Man's Search for Meaning, the book devotes approximately half of its contents to describing Auschwitz and the psychology of its prisoners, suggesting a long stay at the death camp. However his wording is contradictory and, according to Pytell, "profoundly deceptive", as contrary to the impression Frankl gives of staying at Auschwitz for months, he was held close to the train, in the "depot prisoner" area of Auschwitz, and for no more than a few days. Frankl was neither registered at Auschwitz nor assigned a number there before being sent on to a subsidiary work camp of Dachau, known as Kaufering III, that (together with Terezรญn) is the true setting of much of what is described in his book.[33][34][35]"

My favorite book of all time is Jude the Obscure by Thomas Hardy. Reading it helped get me out of the circumstances I'd been living in since I was a kid, and is still probably the most uplifting book I've read. Of course it starts out rough and miserable, but for someone coming from that same position (absent family, poverty) it makes a lot of sense, and it all pays off in the end. Just make sure to go into it blind (I already feel like I'm spoling it by saying it's uplifting).

I'm sure all the other books here are good, but read Jude the Obscure first. It's not a tough read and I think it's perfect for you.

I'm not the biggest fan of Jewry overall but the book itself has some practical wisdom, and a number of people I know have told me it helped them out. It's wise not to toss the baby with the bathwater.
